Vietnam's January meat output up 10%

Vietnam's Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development's Livestock Department said that the country's meat output rose between 8-10% from the same period last year to 440,000 tonnes in January.

In addition, the country already imported 115,000 tonnes of meat since the beginning of 2012, making meat supply to meet local demand during the first month of the year, the department said.

Meat prices in February are forecast to be stable during February thanks to sufficient supply and full control of animal diseases in localities, said the department.

Vietnam's animal husbandry can produce between 2.26 million tonnes and 2.38 million tonnes of meat annually and the country needs to import about 150,000-200,000 tonnes.
