EU exports more pig meat in first 10 months of last year
The European Union has exported 36% more pig meat in the first 10 months of 2020 compared to the same period in 2019.
On a year-on-year basis, the highest increases in export values for EU agri-food products (January-October 2020 compared to January-October 2019) continued to be recorded in trade with China. This was driven by a more than double increase (+120%) in EU27 export values of pig meat, despite the African swine fever cases in some EU Member States.
Concerning product categories, the increase in export values (+36% in January-October 2020 compared to January-October 2019) was driven by continued exceptionally high exports of pig meat - principally to China with a clear shift in EU origin depending on sanitary trade restrictions.
