China Corn: Prices surge 60% on-year (week ended Jan 29, 2021)
Corn supply remained tight, hence supporting prices to move higher. However, as smaller traders in need of cash before the Chinese New year released stocks, price hikes slowed amid increased availability. Climbing for five consecutive weeks, corn prices have surged 14% accumulatively.
Compared with a year ago, corn prices were higher by a tremendous 58%.
Tight availability will underpin the prices of corn in China. Nonetheless, trade will slow in the coming period as market participants halt operation gradually with the Chinese New Year approaching.
