Iran to export US$160 million shrimp in 2012

In the current calendar year, Iran will export US$160 million shrimp and plans to raise the value to US$500 million by 2015, head of a fisheries organisation Reza Razeqi stated.

Some 140,000 tonnes of fish and 6,000 tonnes of shrimp were hunted last year, he told the news agency. He added that the per capita consumption of fish in Iran was 8.5 kilogrammes last year, which is less than the world's average.

He referred to Iraq, Kuwait, the UAE, China, South Korea, Lebanon and Spain as the primary destinations for Iranian shrimp.
