Italy's 2011 corn output estimated at 9.79 million tonnes

Italy's 2011 corn output estimate has been raised by Italy's statistics agency ISTAT on Tuesday (Jan 31) to 9.79 million tonnes, from a previous estimate of 9.58 million tonnes due to stronger yields per hectare.

The corn output estimate rose despite a fall in the approximation of planted area to 994,831 hectares from 1.02 million hectares previously, the data showed.

ISTAT raised its estimates of 2011 wheat crops last week.
