China's Qinhuangdao Chia Tai exports 40 percent more products to Japan

Qinhuangdao Chia Tai Group exported 14, 000 tonnes of cooked chicken products to Japan in 2006, a 40-percent increase on-year, making it the second largest exporter to Japan nationwide in terms of export volume.

To meet Japan's strict import standards, the company has improved its management systems, implemented prescriptive treatment for its sick livestock, shortened the animals' fattening period and improved quality control measures.

Japan amended its regulatory rules on residual chemical additives in May last year. The new version saw a tenfold increase in the number of regulations from 36 to 382, making it a challenge for most Chinese companies to export food products to Japan.

For Qinghuangdao Chia Tai, which exports 90 percent of its products to Japan, the stricter regulations has not forced the company to cut down on its exports. Instead, export volumes to Japan increased significantly.
