Vietnam's Mekong province expands shrimp farming
Despite bird flu outbreaks, the province of Soc Trang in Mekong Delta region is still setting its sights to better agriculture performance this year as it plans to expand its shrimp farms from 41,293 hectares to 45,000 hectares this year. Of this, 25,000 hectares are to be farmed on an industrial scale, the local Department of Fisheries said.
The Cuu Long (Mekong) Delta province has invested over VND1.3 trillion (US$81 million) so far to develop shrimp farming and irrigation for aquaculture.
