China's live pig inventories increase 7 percent

The live pig inventories of China on December rose by 6.5 percent on-year, while the inventories of fertile sows climbed by 9.4 percent.

The fertile sows accounted for 10 percent of the total, slightly higher than the usual. Live pig inventories of above-scale breeding farms surged by 20 percent on-year.

China's Ministry of Agriculture said January 27 that the pig development policies and the live pig market price hikes, pushed the pig production to boom again in September 2007.

The ministry added that the inventories and output of live pigs as well as the number of fertile sows is increasing steadily.
