Canada 2010-11 grain production to take a downturn
Ending supplies of Canada's grain and oilseed crops at the termination of the 2010-11 crop year will be lower than the forecast for 2009-10, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada's market analysis division said.
The crop year for grains and oilseeds in Canada runs from August 1 to July 31.
Ending supplies of the eight major grains and oilseeds in 2010-11 were forecast at 12.325 million tonnes. This compares with the latest 2009-10 carryover forecast from Agriculture Canada of 14.195 million tonnes.
Production of the eight major grains and oilseeds in 2010-11 was pegged at 65.095 million tonnes. This compares with production of 65.145 million seen in 2009-10.
The eight major grains and oilseeds are rapeseed, flaxseed, soy, wheat, oats, barley, corn and rye.
Total exports of the eight major grains and oilseeds in the 2010-11 crop year were projected at 31.840 million tonnes. This compares with the newest 2009-10 forecast of 31.683 million tonnes.
Total domestic usage of the various grains and oilseeds for the 2010-11 crop year was estimated at 37.708 million tonnes. This was up from the 2009-10 latest estimate of 36.942 million.
