The Irish government is giving a record EUR 600 million to boost its seafood industry.
The sum would be spent in the next six years to turn the industry back to profitability.
In announcing the package, the government acknowledged the vital role aquaculture plays in the Irish economy and said the new strategy will put the industry on course for a profitable future.
The Government hopes that by 2013 Ireland would have a sustainable and competitive seafood industry.
