China's 2003 Soybean Imports Up 83%; Exports Down 3%    

 

China's Soybean Imports 

 

According to China Customs Authority, a total of 1,563,768 metric tons of soybean were imported to China in December 2003, showing a year-on-year increase of 47%.

 

Between January and December 2003, China's soybean imports totalled 20,741,107 tons, a year-on-year rise of 83%. Of the total imports,

    • 5,964,127 tons were from Argentina, a year-on-year increase of 115%;

    • 6,470,120 tons were from Brazil, a year-on-year increase of 66%;

    • 8,293,027 tons were from the US, a year-on-year increase of 80%;

    • 13,456 tons were from Canada, a year-on-year increase of 12%. 

China's Soybean Exports

 

Based on the Customs official figures, China exported a total of 27,469 tons of soybean in December 2003, showing a year-on-year increase of 28%.

 

Between January and December 2003, China's soybean exports totaled 267,468 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 3%. Of the imported amount, 141,191 tons were from Japan, a year-on-year rise of 5% and 54,362 tons from South Korea, a year-on-year rise of 13%.
