Thailand adds chicken to its price control list

Ratchada Dhnadirek, Deputy Government Spokesperson, said chicken and chicken meat has been included on the state price control list to ease consumers' difficulties from rising food prices, the National News Bureau of Thailand reported.

The Thai Cabinet has allocated a total of THB 1.48 billion (~US$44 million; THB 10 = US$0.30) from the central budget, which was proposed by the Commerce Ministry, to fund consumer relief measures over the next three months.

Ratchada said the Cabinet has also approved measures for chicken farmers (raising more than 100,000 birds) and chicken slaughterhouses (with a daily capacity of 4,000 chickens) to provide monthly reports of their quantity, stocks, and sales.

All of Thailand's 55 local feed factories must also report sales costs, production volume and stocks as part of these stricter measures. Factories must seek approval from the Department of Internal Trade before they are permitted to increase produce prices.
