New leak-proof poultry packaging developed by ULMA
ULMA Packaging has developed a new leak-proof poultry packaging that uses less material called "Tight-Chicken", made for the increased demand from the high-volume poultry processing industry, Packaging Europe reported.
Tight-Chicken was developed using ULMA Packaging's vertical bagmaker machines. Based on its Tight-Bag air extraction method, the new packaging can remove air from the pack without perforation.
ULMA said the new process means Tight-Chicken uses less plastic per pack and forgoes the use of metal clips traditionally used when packaging poultry. The new packaging also prevents leaks and contamination, while enhancing visual appeal.
Tight-Chicken is able to reach speeds of 35 packages per minute with the product's weight unchanged, guaranteed. This means no further packaging is needed at the point of sale.
Steve Brooks, vertical packaging specialist at ULMA Packaging UK, said Tight-Chicken was developed to reduce packaging required while creating a leak-proof solution that can be transported from the distributor, to the retail store, then to the consumer.
Brooks said Tight-Chicken can be used with ULMA's VTI 400, VTI 500 and VTI 600 vertical bagmakers and be synchronised with either a fully-automatic chicken conveyor belt system or a semi-automatic set-up with manual loading.
