Russia cattle population down 6.2 percent in 2008

 

 

There were 21.1 million cattle in Russia on December 31, 2.6 percent less than a year ago, the federal statistics service said Tuesday (January 27).

 

The numbers of cows on the date fell by 1.3 percent on the year to 9.2 million. The numbers of pigs increased by 1.2 percent to 16.3 million while sheep and goats increased by 2.7 percent to 21.6 million.

 

Total meat output in Russia in 2008, including cattle and poultry increased by 6.5 percent on the year to 9.3 million tonnes.
