Fewer hogs and pigs in Hawaii in 2004
Hawaii's 2004 inventory of 22,000 hogs and pigs is 1,000 fewer than a year ago, according to the Hawaii Agricultural Statistics Service.
The inventory breakdown pegged the breeding hog category at 5,200 head and the market hog herd at 16,800 head.
The 2004 pig crop totaled 31,000 pigs, unchanged from 2003, but 1,000 less than during 2002. Farmers project farrowing 2,200 sows during the current six-month period, through the end of May.
US inventory of all hogs and pigs now stands at 60.5 million head.
