Techna-X has signed a five year partnership Sabah, Malaysia-based Borneo Eco Star (BES) to develop and commercialise a Smart Integrated Aquaculture Platform for sustainable farming in Malaysia, The Sun Malaysia reported.

Techna-X, a subsidiary under Internet of Things (IoT) agriculture company Wavetree Technologies with a presence in Malaysia, Indonesia, and South America, will establish an aquaculture IoT solution at BES's 102 ponds located at the UiTM-BES Innovation and Smart Aquaculture Centre.

This IoT solution is valued at MYR 2.6 million (~US$618,000; MYR 1 = US$0.24)

Shim Yen Lin, CEO of BES, said the Smart Integrated Aquaculture Platform will enable its farming operations to maximise efficiency, reduce costs, maximise yield, and further promote sustainable farming practices.

The platform's features include automatic environmental monitoring, water quality sensing and control, feed optimisation, fish/prawn health monitoring, workforce management, as well as yield prediction.

Vince Ng, CEO of Wavetree Technologies, said the IoT platform will prove beneficial to both small and large-scale aquaculture companies.

The Malaysian aquaculture maket is estimated to be valued at MYR 147 million (~US$34.9 million) last year, and projected to reach MYR 313 million (~US$74.4 million) by 2026.
