Chicken supply in Malaysia unaffected by bird flu outbreak in the US and Europe

Mohamad Sabu, Malaysia's Agriculture and Food Security Minister, said the country's chicken supply for the domestic market is unaffected by the recent bird flu outbreaks in the US and Europe, Malay Mail reported.

Although no cases of bird flu had been reported in the nation, he said that the ministry continues to monitor the situation.

Mohamad Sabu said the Malaysia's supply of chickens and eggs is starting to improve but will take some time to stabilise because it involves raising animals.

When asked about targeted subsidies for chicken breeders, Mohamad said that the issue is being discussed with a number of other ministries, including the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living.

He said they are nearing the end of their review of the situation, and an announcement is expected soon.
