Netherlands to cull 216,000 chickens following discovery of bird flu
Authorities in the Netherlands have detected a highly contagious strain of bird flu at a farm in the province of Noord Holland and the southern province of Noord Brabant, Reuters reported.
170,000 chickens will be culled in Noord Holland, as H5N1 tests are being conducted at nearby farms to determine if the virus has spread, according to the country's Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality.
A further 46,000 broiler chickens will be culled at Noord Brabant province.
Since the virus was detected in the country in 2021, hundreds of thousands of chickens, ducks, turkeys and dozens of wild birds have been culled.
