France to kill 2.5 million poultry due to bird flu
The French farming ministry has announced that 2.5 million birds will be culled to prevent the spread of highly pathogenic avian influenza southwest of the country, Reuters reported.
The ministry said 1.2 million birds have already been killed, with a further 1.3 million still needed to be culled as a precautionary measure.
The spread of bird flu in Europe has raised concern among governments and the poultry industry, as past outbreaks have led to trade restrictions imposed and millions of birds culled.
