Major Mexican pig producer to reconstruct processing facility with US$100 million investment

Grupo Kuo, Mexico's biggest pig producer, will invest around MXN2 billion (US$100 million) to reconstruct its Sahé processing plant near Tixpéual, Yucatán peninsula, Mexico.

The company estimates the unit will open in late 2021. The plant will be located in a 150-hectare area and will use automation to process two million pigs annually. Once the reconstruction is completed, the factory will create more than 2,000 direct jobs and 7,000 indirect ones.

Investment plans in the plant are part of a larger project to build more multiplication farms and additional commercial farms, and construct more lines in Grupo Kuo's food processing plant. The total investment package is worth MXN6 billion (US$ 300 million).

"With this important announcement, we have consolidated our position as the largest pork producer in the country and reaffirmed our commitment to creating value with our stakeholders," said Alejandro de la Barreda Gómez, CEO of Grupo Kuo.

The company has three slaughterhouses (processing 2.5 million animals per year) , a feed factory (producing 725,000 tonnes annually) and a farm (with over 76,500 sows) for the purpose of pork production.
