Mexico to end agricultural year with higher production

 

 

Mexico's agricultural and fisheries production is expected to conclude the 2020 agricultural year at 290.2 million tonnes, 1.0% higher than in 2020.

 

The percentage represents an increase of 2.7 million tonnes, according to the country's Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

 

Based on a report by the Agrifood and Fisheries Information Service (SIAP), in the agricultural subsectors, production is estimated at 264.6 million tonnes, 0.8% more than in the agricultural year 2019 - in livestock, 23.6 million tonnes, with a growth of 2.6%, and in fisheries, 1.95 million tonnes, representing an increase of 3.0% over the previous year.

 

Specifically, data on livestock production put production at 23 million tonnes (including milk production), and the volume of meat (carcass weight) of the main species is expected to increase by 3.4% over the previous year, to 7.5 million tonnes.

 

By species, pork production is expected to close the year with 1.65 million tonnes, 3.1% more than 2019; poultry with 3.62 million tonnes (+ 4.0%); and beef with two million tonnes (+2.6 percent).
