H5N8 bird flu detected in the Czech Republic among wild swans
The Czech Republic has discovered the H5N8 bird flu strain in two wild swans in the Pisek district, south of the country, Reuters reported citing the CTK news agency.
This is the first reported bird flu case detected in the country in about a year.
Bird flu has been spreading rapidly across Europe, believed to be spread by migratory wild birds. The region's poultry industry is on alert after previous bird flu outbreaks resulted in tens of millions of birds culled.
