Chiba, Japan dairy farm operator looks to expand to India

A long-established dairy farm operator in Chiba Prefecture, Japan, will expand into India, where demand for dairy products there is traditionally strong.

Akiba Bokujo Holdings has partnered with an Indian information technology (IT) startup to procure feed, raise dairy cows, and produce products. It also aims to share Japanese know-how with local small-scale dairy farmers in India to help them boost income.

Akiba Bokujo was founded as a stock farm in 1887. It recently teamed up with startup Stellapps, which helps dairy farmers in India to promote the use of IT tools in their operations.

This spring, the Japanese company will launch an integrated facility that covers everything from dairy farming to product manufacturing in Bengaluru.

Using advanced technologies such as for remote management from Japan, Akiba Bokujo aims to deliver gelato and other products to luxury hotels in the country in a bid to increase the brand value of its products first.

Meanwhile, the company also hopes to popularise Japanese-style dairy farming in India to help improve production efficiency at local dairy farms.
