Santa Catarina contributed to 21% of Brazil's total meat exports last year
Brazilian state Santa Catarina accounted for 21% of the total meat exported by Brazil in 2023, a higher percentage than in the previous year.
Having shipped 1.85 million tonnes of meat valued at US$4.022 billion, Santa Catarina broke record in meat exports last year, considering all species produced in the state (chickens, pigs, turkeys, ducks and mallards, cattle, among others), surpassing the previous total record in the historical series (started in 1997).
Compared to 2022, exports increased 8.6% in volume and 5.3% in value in 2023.
In 2023, Santa Catarina exported 658.2 thousand tonnes of pork, valued at US$1.57 billion, an increase of 9.3% in volume and 9.7% in revenue, compared to the previous year's exports. These results represent a new record for pork exports from Santa Catarina, both in quantity and value. The positive results in this period are due to the growth in shipments to most of the main buyers, especially the Philippines (50.7% increase in quantity and 57.4% increase in revenue), Chile (43.3% and 42.8%), and Japan (47.0% and 30.2%).
China accounted for 34.6% of Santa Catarina's pork exports last year, being the main destination of the product. Santa Catarina was responsible for 54.8% of the quantity and 56.4% of the revenue of Brazilian pork exports in 2023.
In December, the state exported 62.8 thousand tons of pork (fresh, processed, and offal), an increase of 10.4% over the previous month's shipments and a 16.9% increase over December 2022. This is the best monthly result in the entire historical series. Revenues in December were US$137.9 million, up 8.3% from the previous month and up 1.1% from December 2022.
