Russia sees increase in swine population but a decrease in cattle

 

 

Pigs population in Russia on December 1, 2007 was 16.9 million, a 5-percent from a year earlier, the federal statistics service said in a statement on Tuesday (January 22, 2008).

 

Total cattle on December 1, 2007 was 21.8 million, a 0.2-percent decrease than a year ago. It included 9.4 million cows, which had suffered a fall of 1 percent on the year.

 

Russia's total meat production in January-November 2007 had increased about 9 percent on the year to 7.4 tonnes in live weight.
