Algeria's 2012 wheat imports decrease to 6.2 million tonnes

 

 

As its local harvest of the grain increased, Algeria's wheat imports declined to 6.2 million tonnes in 2012.

 

According to custom authorities' statistics, the North African country's wheat import bill fell to US$2.1 billion in 2012 compared with US$2.8 billion in 2011 for 7.4 million tonnes of the grain, the private Algiers-based newspaper said.

 

Algeria harvested four million tonnes of soft and hard wheat in 2012, according to the newspaper.
