Nutreco completes acquisition of US fish feed company
Nutreco's fish feed subsidiary Skretting has announced the EUR 11 million (US$16 million) acquisition of Nelson and Sons Inc, manufacturer of Silver Cup fish feed.
Nelson and Sons has two production facilities near Salt Lake City, Utah. It produces fish feed for the freshwater markets in Western US, including a significant share in the Idaho Trout business. The company is also active in Canada and Mexico, and annual revenue is about EUR 17 million (US$ 24.7 million). The profitability is in line with Skretting's fish feed business' profitability.
Skretting's managing director Knut Nesse said that Silver Cup is a well respected name throughout the US, Canada and Mexico for its quality specialty feeds. He added that as Silver Cup is more active in other areas and product niches than Skretting, it is a natural extension for Skretting's move into new aquaculture feed markets.
This acquisition will fit in Nutreco's strategy to expand the company's fish feed businesses in new markets.
Nutreco has previously acquired Japanese fish feed production facilities Marine Net Co. Ltd.
Nutreco Holding N.V. is an international animal nutrition and fish feed company located in Netherlands while Nelson and Sons Inc is a US commercial fish feed manufacturer which was founded more than six decades ago as a wholesales produce company.
