South Korea lifts its temporary ban on Canadian beef imports
Canadian Agriculture Minister Marie-Claude Bibeau said South Korea is lifting its temporary ban on Canadian beef imports, Reuters reported.
The ban was imposed after Canada detected a case of bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) in December, its first case in six years. The case was discovered in an 8-1/2-year-old beef cow in the province of Alberta.
China and the Philippines also imposed bans on Canadian beef imports.
Canada's BSE case is atypical, a form of BSE that occurs naturally in older cattle as opposed to classical BSE that is caused by an animal eating contaminated feed.
