US pork exports expected to beat 2020 numbers
The US Department of Commerce said US pork exports in 2021 are expected to surpass 2020's record of US$7.7 billion, DRGNews reported.
The US pork sector exported more than US$7.5 billion worth of pork products between January to November 2021. The top five export markets for the US are China, Japan, Mexico, Canada, and South Korea.
Exports were higher in 2021 because of countries like the Philippines, which imported 92% more pork last year compared to 2020. Another export market, Vietnam, is set to cut its frozen pork import tariffs on July 1 this year.
The US National Pork Producers Council has called for the US government to participate in more trade opportunities and wants China to remove its tariffs on imported US pork.
