Ukraine's 2011 grain harvest up 44.3%
Compared to 2010 of 56.7 million tonnes, Ukraine's 2011 agricultural enterprises increased grain harvest in weight after processing by 44.3% or 17.4 million tonnes, preliminary data of the State Statistics Service said.
According to the data, in 2011, agribusinesses harvested 278,800 tonnes of millet (2.4 times more as against 2010); 281,500 tonnes of buckwheat (2.1 times more); 22.8 million tonnes of grain corn (1.9 times more); 22.3 million tonnes of wheat (by 32.4% more); 578,900 tonnes of rye (by 24.5% more); 169,800 tonnes of rice (by 14.7% more); 505,600 tonnes of oats (by 10.3% more); 9.1 million tonnes of barley (by 7.2% more).
That significant increase in the volumes of harvested grain was stipulated by the increment in average yield by 37.5% or 10.1 centners/hectare to 37 centners/hectare, as well as by the expansion of harvesting areas by 5.1% or 738,600 hectares to 15,314,300 hectares.
The stake of bread grain in the total harvest made up 42% or 23.7 million tonnes, feed grain - 58% or 33 million tonnes. Farm enterprises produced 78% of the total gross grain harvest - 44.2 million tonnes. Private farms produced 22% or 12.5 million tonnes.
The yield of crops in agricultural enterprise made up 39 centners per hectare, 24.2% or 7.6 centners per hectare more than in private farms. As earlier reported, in 2010, agricultural enterprises harvested 39.2 million tonnes of grains and grain legumes.
