Ukraine's pig, sheep, poultry numbers up on-year; cattle down

 

 

The number of pigs in Ukraine on Jan 1 was 7.68 million, 9 percent more than on the same date last year, the state statistics committee reported Thursday (Jan 18).

 

The number of poultry on Jan 1 was 167.81 million, an increase of 3.6 percent compared with Jan 1, 2006.

 

The number of cattle in the country on Jan 1 was 6.33 million, a fall of 2.8 percent compared with Jan 1, 2006.

 

The number of sheep and goats increased by 2.1 percent, compared with the year-earlier period, to 1.66 million.

 

In the last few years, a number of serious investors entered the pork and poultry markets and considerable financial resources have been invested in upgrading the existing facilities and creating new ones.
