Turkey sees dip in chicken meat production, rise in milk output
According to data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), Turkey's chicken meat production faced a decline of 3.9%, totalling 2.13 million tonnes in January-November 2023 compared to the previous year, but milk output witnessed a positive trend, increasing by 4.3% during the same period, Hurriyet Daily News reported.
The statistics revealed a 6.2% reduction in the number of chickens slaughtered, reaching 1.16 billion in the first 11 months of 2023. However, hen egg production experienced growth, rising by 3.5% to reach 18 billion, as reported by TUIK on January 15.
Turkey meat production in the country saw a more substantial decline, exceeding 12% and totalling just over 43,000 tonnes in 2023.
On the dairy front, the amount of cow's milk collected by dairy enterprises recorded a 4.3% increase in January-November 2023 compared to the previous year, reaching 9.34 million tonnes. Additionally, drinking milk production rose by 0.8%, totalling 1.37 million tonnes.
Cheese production, specifically made from cow's milk, reached 705,000 tonnes during the January-November 2023 period, marking a 9.8% increase compared to the same period in 2022.
