Malaysia's aquaculture industry suffers US$6.69 million in losses due to floods
Malaysia's Fisheries Department said the local aquaculture industry has suffered losses estimated at MYR 28 million (~US$6.69 million, MYR 1 = US$0.24) due to the recent floods in the country, Bernama reported.
The department said it will be channeling assistance to affected small-scale aquaculture farmers with freshwater and brackish water farms, and hatcheries above two hectares or using cages not above 15 units.
The assistance provided is up to 50% of the operating costs, including seeds, equipment, and feed, based on the operator's livestock system.
Affected operators may also apply to district or state Fisheries Offices for assistance.
