African swine fever detected in Hong Kong
The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) said Hong Kong has confirmed an African swine fever (ASF) outbreak among wild boar in the northern part of the territory, Reuters reported.
Citing Hong Kong authorities, the OIE said there have been abnormal deaths reported among wild boards in the Wong Yue Tan area of New Territories. More than six dead wild boars have been discovered.
Samples collected from the carcasses were positive for ASF.
The report said the Hong Kong Agriculture Fisheries and Conservation Department will continue to monitor the situation and maintain its surveillance in both the local and wild swine population.
No swine farms have been affected.
