China Fishmeal: Market set to stay strong  (week ended Jan 15, 2021)

CNF prices of Peruvian prime-grade fishmeal increased to US$1,580/tonne.

During Nov 12-Jan 12, Peru's fish catch in the central and northern seas totalled 2,273,770 tonnes, which was 82% of the 2.78 million tonnes quota for the season.

Fishmeal availability in China continued to decrease with imports low. Traders stood firm on prices even as demand was not particularly strong during this time of the year.

For FAQ fishmeal products, price quotes were stable to higher at RMB10,000-10,700/tonne.

Fishmeal import costs are set to increase substantially with freight charges soaring and the costs of Peruvian fishmeal moving up. Moreover, as soymeal prices approach record highs, feed producers will increase the usages of alternative protein ingredients including fishmeal. Prices of fishmeal are projected to increase with supply tight, import costs higher and demand strengthened.
