Brazil's 2010 chicken consumption hits record high

 

 

Brazil's chicken consumption reached an all-time record in 2010, rising 13.63% to 44.53 kg per capita, compared with 39.18 kg per capita in 2009, the Association of Chick Producers (Apinco) said Friday (Jan 14).

 

Consumption growth last year was significantly above the average increase of 5.6% for the past 30 years (1981 to 2010), Apinco said.

 

According to the latest figures released by Apinco, chicken production rose 11.71% to reach 12.312 million kg per capita in 2010, up from 11.021 million kg per capita in 2009. Exports increased 5.12% to 3.82 million tonnes in 2010, versus 3.684 million tonnes in 2009.
