Pakistan bans meat from 11 EU nations
The Pakistan government has imposed a ban on the import of live animals-cattle, buffalo, sheep and goats-and meat, bone meal, tallow containing protein and feed ingredients from 11 BSE-infected European countries and the Alberta region of Canada.
Bovine Spongiform Encephaloeapthy, or mad cow disease, affects the European countries of the United Kingdom, Ireland, Belgium, Denmark, Falklands, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, Holland and Spain.
The import of meat and meat products from parts of Canada other than Alberta shall be allowed subject to the certification of additional animal quarantine requirements. The Ministry of Commerce issued a statutory regulation order (SRO) to amend the Import Policy Order 2006 to give effect to the decision.
