Spain overtakes Germany as Europe's top pork producer

Spain surpassed Germany in European pork production, based on the latest published Eurostat data for the period of January-September 2021.

According to the data, pork production in Spain between January and September of last year stood at 3,823,670 tonnes, an increase of 3.89% compared to the same period of the previous year. In relation to the number of head slaughtered, there was a 4.30% increase from 41,140,634 head between January and September 2020 to 42,907,752 head for the same period in 2021.

Spanish monthly pork production in September was once again above German production, and for the period of January-September 2021, Spanish pork production (3.82 million tonnes) exceeded German production (3.73 million tonnes) for the first time.
