Santa Catarina positioned as Brazil's top pork producing state in 2021
The Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA) projects a 4% growth in pig production in Brazil in 2022, compared to 2021, surpassing 4.8 million tonnes produced.
The state of Paraná stands out among the three largest pig producers in the country, with production growing and breaking records year after year.
In 2021, Paraná produced 20.5% of Brazil's total pig numbers. The state stands in second place according to the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). Santa Catarina leads the country's pork production, which is responsible for 28.5% of production. The third-largest producer is Rio Grande do Sul, with 17.5%.
The most recent data for Paraná are from the quarterly slaughter of animals ascertained by IBGE. As of September 2021, Paraná produced 767,000 tonnes of pork. It was the highest production on record between July and September 2021.
Paraná had a 9.2% increase compared to the same quarter in 2020.
