China hog market: Sow inventory stays high, lower piglet output projection in Q1 2026
At 57.16 million head, December 2025's hog release volume in China inched up 0.01 million head or 0.02% compared with November's 57.15 million head.
The total inventory of conceivable sows increased further in the month to 41.44 million heads — its highest level for last year. The sow inventories of large hog producers remained high, although those of the two largest players decreased slightly. Medium-scale hog producers continued to expand by 5–10%. Smaller farms were cautious about building their sow populations amid losses.
