UK pork offal permitted to access Mexican market
Mexico has granted market access to UK pork offal, which could generate an estimated £18 million (US$23 million) for the United Kingdom over the next five years.
The move follows a commercial inward mission last year during which the UK's Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB) hosted buyers from Mexico who met with farmers and processors and learned more about the UK's high-quality meat production.
The new approval will see the market opened for a range of offal products ahead of a wider audit visit in the summer.
Mexico is one of the biggest pork importers in the world. Pork is the second most consumed meat in the country, which consumes more pork than it is able to produce.
Consumption in Mexico increased by 4.7% per year from 2017 to 2022 and is expected to grow further over the next decade
