Bangladesh stops all chick imports after bird flu outbreak in India

Bangladesh has stopped import of chicks from all countries after bird flu outbreaks were reported in neighbouring India, reported bdnews24.com.

SM Rezaul Karim, Bangladesh's Fisheries and Livestock Minister, said they are being cautious to prevent the spread of disease in the country.

He said Bangladesh does not import any animals, chickens, ducks, eggs, or chicks from India.

Rezaul Karim said there are bird flu reports in the country, and that there is enough vaccine to immunize domestic poultry against bird flu.

The Fisheries and Livestock Ministry informed the Department of Livestock Services to stop the import of chicks into the country after eight states in India detected bird flu.

Debashish Nag, the general secretary of the Bangladesh Poultry Industries Central Council, said Bangladeshi poultry farmers import chicks from Europe, but will stop importing chicks from all countries temporarily.
