Taiwan firm to import US beef

Taiwan's largest importer of US beef has expressed intentions to import US bone-in beef and could place an order next week at the earliest, after the dust over Taiwan-US beef trade dispute settles.

Huang Shih-yuan, a manager of Shusen Co., said that due to the controversy in the wake of the government's easing of restrictions on US beef imports late last year, he was not fully aware if bone-in beef could be imported. He originally ordered a container, but later cancelled it.

He said importers have adopted a more cautious attitude amid public reservations about US beef imports, and that it was now clear that bone-in beef could have been imported a long time ago.
