China's pork quality and safety improve remarkably
China reported that the live pig killing-out value at designated slaughterhouses in county-level and above cities reached 100 percent on December 31, 2007.
This is attained after four months of intensified campaigns in pork control throughout the country.
Villages and towns percentage points surged by 25 percent to 06.3 percent, government officials reported.
Industry players said that this indicates that both pork quality and safety has been enhanced.
The release of meat reserves by the Chinese government also increased pork supply in the market, pulling down pork prices.
The wholesale price for fresh pork last week from December 31, 2007 to January 6, 2008 rose by 0.7 percent week-on-week, with the rate of increase dropping by 1.1 percentage points.
