H5N8 bird flu reported in Slovakia
The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) said the highly pathogenic H5N8 bird flu virus was reported in west Slovakia, the first case of the virus in close to three years, reported Reuters.
The H5N8 bird flu virus was discovered at a backyard poultry farm in Nitra, Slovakia.
Three out of 22 birds were discovered to be infected with the virus, said the OIE, citing a report by the Slovakian agriculture ministry.
All remaining birds were slaughtered to prevent the spread of the virus.
