South Korea's cattle markets close on FMD outbreak
Following the recent outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) in South Korea, five cattle markets in the country have decided to close indefinitely.
In a move to prevent a further spread of the disease, Hoengseong County located in Gangwon Province is closing its Hoengseong cattle market indefinitely as well as its calf auction market, following the same move by four other cattle markets in the region.
The foot-and-mouth disease was confirmed last week by Chief Veterinary Officer, Dr Kiyoon Chang, in the northern city of Pocheon, the first case FMD disease reported in eight years.
