Norway Increases Seafood Exports

Norway exported seafood worth NOK 28.2 billion in 2004, a rise of NOK 2 billion compared with the previous year.

In weight, the export dropped by 160,000 tons, or 7.5 per cent, compared with 2003.

In other words, the increased export value is due to a general price increase.

After a three-year decline, the export of seafood from Norway is back on the positive development trend of the 1990s.

The value of exported salmon increased in 2004 by NOK 1 billion.

The value of seafood exported to the EU increased by NOK 960 million, to NOK 17.1 billion.

However, the fastest increase is seen in the export to the markets outside the EU.

The export of dried and salted cod to Brazil increased in 2004 by 45 per cent, to NOK 704 million.
