Another ASF case detected in Hong Kong swine farm
The Hong Kong Agriculture, Fisheries, and Conservation Department confirmed the presence of African swine fever (ASF) in a swine farm near Yuen Long, after samples from 32 swine at the San Tin farm were examined, RTHK reported.
In response, the department swiftly imposed a ban on swine transportation from the affected farm, and plans are underway to initiate the culling of its 1,700 swine. This farm is situated within the 3 km monitoring zone of another Yuen Long swine farm where ASF was previously identified.
Given the incubation period of up to 19 days, the department announced its commitment to closely monitoring other swine farms within the zone. Concurrently, efforts will be made to assist these farms in enhancing their biosecurity measures to prevent further spread.
Stringent measures have been implemented to prevent cross-infection during transportation and at slaughterhouses, aiming to contain the spread of ASF and safeguard the swine population in Hong Kong.
