Ethanol uses over 3% of Germany's 2011 grain yield
Germany's ethanol production, the biggest fuel market in Europe, used 3.16% of the country's 2010-11 (July-June) grain output, bioethanol industry association BDBE said Tuesday (Jan 10).
It said 1.39 million tonnes of the country's 43.97 million tonnes grain crop were refined into bioethanol, BDBE said.
Ethanol can be produced from a variety of starch grains, such as wheat and corn, as well as sugar beet.
In the same period, German ethanol output amounted to 583,000 tonnes, the association said.
Ethanol in Germany is used as a main blending component to gasoline, as well as for production of octane booster, ETBE.
