India's Suguna to export processed chicken to Japan
India's Suguna Poultry Farm Ltd is ready to export processed chicken to Japan in a month's time.
Three Japanese firms have expressed interest to import 'portion' chicken from Suguna.
B. Soundararajan, Managing Director of Suguna said they will start commercial production of portion chicken, for export to Japan, from around the middle of this month. He said the sample production would go on for a month and they will ship a couple of containers initially on a trial basis.
The firm already exports frozen whole chickens to the West Asian market. If all goes according to plan, Suguna will be the first company to export processed chicken from India to Japan.
Specifications on chicken processing according to the needs of the Japanese market are believed to have been set by the Japanese importers during visits to Suguna's chicken processing unit in Udumalpet in Coimbatore district.
A committee to explore the possibility of exporting processed chicken to the EU market has been proposed by the Union Government, said Soundararajan.
